How much does this cost?

The short answer is I accept insurance and offer a reasonable cash pay sliding fee scale of $80 - $140 based on household income.  The long answer is the total cost depends on how many sessions we expect to get the results you desire.  You are entitled to an estimate of that total, and I am happy to provide it after we have an initial consult.

How long does this take?

First, let's talk duration of each therapeutic session.  Each session is typically around 50-55 minutes long.  Occasionally, we will meet for a 15-30 minute check in, or 80-85 minutes.

Next, let's talk cadence.  To gain some initial traction, it is helpful to meet weekly.  Many clients prefer a biweekly cadence, which allows them time to engage some of the techniques they are learning on their own, and in reading and self reflection.

And, then there is total length of the therapeutic relationship.  Clients typically experience improvement within a few sessions, and on average engage in about 14 sessions.  Integrated EMDR therapy will generally be effective within a few sessions.  All that said, some clients stay in therapy longer, for additional layers of healing,  ongoing emotional resourcing, and sometimes return for those same reasons.

Please give some thought to your timing goals within the construct of healing you are seeking.   I am happy  to provide you an estimate of timing after we have an initial consult.

What's therapy like with you?

How I hope you'll feel...

Envision kicking off your shoes, sitting back in your chair with a warm mug of tea in your hands, in front of a warm fire.  Crackling embers and dancing flames invite you to explore your inner world, and at the same time tether you to the magic of this moment.  In therapy, you should feel comfortable, soothed, inspired, and warmed by a nonjudgmental positive regard.

The nuts and bolts of how it really goes...

  • Therapy begins with a greeting, possibly a short update, and often a somatic meditation moment.  With a priority of stabilization and overall functioning, we will process recent or past experiences which are relevant to current treatment goals.  We won't be tirelessly chasing the crisis of the week.

  • I will use empathetic responses, engaging questions, new perspectives, and provide many tools to help you attune to, and regulate, your somatic emotional experience.

  • We will likely engage visualization and bilateral stimulation to integrate your somatic, emotional and cognitive experience.   I may sometimes give you somatic feedback or relay imagery that has come up for me, relative to your experience.

  • We will likely utilize bilateral stimulation and visualization to rewire negative thought patterns, resolving and regulating the related somatic emotional experiences.

How can I get the most out of therapy?

When it comes to the therapy relationship, you are the expert on you.  I have the training and tools to walk alongside you on this journey as a guide.  The more time you spend outside of therapy reflecting on your journey, and your experience of incorporating tools and techniques, the easier it will be to gain traction in therapy.  On this journey, your insight and feedback will help us to stay on the right path.
